A house turned inward.

A courtyard house on a tight infill plot between two Victorian terraces. Every room faces the court rather than the street, which is what makes a nine-metre-wide site liveable. One birch, planted before the roof went on.

One tree at the centre

The courtyard gives every room a borrowed horizon. Its birch tree measures the seasons and softens the close boundaries. The house is arranged around that shared view, with openings that bring the court into everyday life.
