Keep the cracks.

The repair and extension of a derelict 1930s tidal lido. The existing pool walls are kept exactly as found, including the cracks; everything new is in cast bronze and rough concrete so the two are never confused with each other.

A clear line between old and new

Repair begins with recognising what is already there. Weathered pool walls hold the memory of the lido. The proposal places new changing rooms beside them with a different texture and a precise bronze threshold. Completion is imagined for 2027.
